John Dougherty (bass)

John W. Dougherty is in his sixth year with the MVAE. He earned a BME and a MA in Voice from the Eastern New Mexico University and a Ph D in Music Education, with emphasis in the teaching of opera, from the Florida State University. John began college teaching in 1960 and served as an administrator in various colleges and universities for more than 20 of those years. He has also served as adjunct teacher of voice at the University of Memphis. John has sung a variety of roles with opera Memphis including operas La Boheme, Samson et Dalila, Don Giovanni, La Traviata, Gianni Schicchi/Buoso's Ghost and The Magic Flute. He has performed with the Arkansas Opera Theatre and Nashville Opera as well as numerous university and community productions of opera, operettas and musicals. In addition, John has appeared as soloist with symphonies in Memphis, Bowling Green and Paducah, KY, Columbus, OH, Little Rock, AR, Midland/Odessa, TX and Portales, NM.
