Carolyn Malish (soprano)

Carolyn Malish is almost a founding member of the Memphis Vocal Arts Ensemble, having sung with the group since their second concert. Currently, Carolyn is the Director of Music at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Memphis, where she directs a 55-member adult choir, a children's Christmas choir, two handbell choirs and is the associate organist. Carolyn also has a piano studio in her home and has taught for 40 years. Carolyn has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan, where she accompanied the Gilbert and Sullivan Society for six semesters before they discovered that she could sing. Then she began to sing in leading roles. Carolyn worked on her Master of Music degree at the University of North Texas with a major in vocal performance. While teaching public school music in Dallas, Carolyn sang with the Dallas Opera Chorus for 15 years. When her husband was transferred to Minnesota, she sang with the Dale Warland Symphonic Choir. Since Minnesota was too cold for her husband, John, they moved to Memphis in 1982.
