Robin Starkey McAlister (soprano)

Robin Starkey McAlister has sung with the Memphis Vocal Arts Ensemble since the fall of 1993, taking a brief hiatus in 1998 to adopt a baby from the Marshall Islands. She is a frequent soloist with the Ensemble and with her church choir. Robin’s background is in musical theatre and her picture still graces the lobby of the Jackson Hole Playhouse, where she has performed many leading roles. She toured as a lead with the Happy Times children’s theatre company and sang the lead role of Emily Roebling for the commemoration of the building of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. She has had lead roles in The Apple Tree, Once Upon A Matress, Satin Lady, Butch and the Kid and A Servant of Two Masters, to name a few. Additionally, Robin is a nationally certified sign language interpreter and is on the cover of two best selling sign language books. Her last five years in New York City, she was the Director of the New York Society for the Deaf Interpreter Service. Her theatrical interpreting credits include the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood with Betty Buckley and Amahl and the Night Visitors at Lincoln Center. She earned a degree in Theatre Education from Brigham Young University, where she toured with the Rocky Mountain Sign-Singers. Robin currently works as a freelance sign language interpreter in Memphis and, with her husband Bill, is the proud parent of two wonderful boys.
