Ruth Stevenson (alto)

Ruth Stevenson graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, so it’s no surprise that Ruth is happiest when singing as a character on stage! Being in the Memphis Vocal Arts Ensemble has allowed her to use her professional training and she thoroughly loves working with Tom and everyone involved with the group. Professionally, Ruth has performed in the Regional Broadway casts of The Sound of Music and Carousel with the North Carolina Theater in Raleigh, NC. She has also performed in musicals with dinner theatres and community theatres in Washington, Utah and New Jersey. Ruth is originally from Bremerton, Washington and first developed her love of performing music as a flute player (she currently teaches private flute lessons). She also sang in jazz choirs and in All State choir during her high school years. In addition to singing with MVAE, Ruth serves in church music as an organizer of musical events, choir director/training. Ruth is married to her husband, David, who is also a singer and musician. Together they sing lead vocals and play keyboards for “One Way Ticket”, a seven person dance band that plays for church dances. Ruth and David also have a Siamese cat, Asia, who has been trained to use the toilet for the past five years! Ruth hopes to remain in Memphis and sing with the Memphis Vocal Arts Ensemble for many years to come.
