Stephen Len White (baritone) Stephen Len White was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated from Memphis State University with a Bachelor's of Music degree with a concentration in Opera Performance. He continued his studies in Graz, Austria, and Venice, Italy, receiving an artist's diploma from EPCASO in Venice, Italy. Since then he has been seen in roles like Blitch in Susannah, Marcello in La Boheme, Germont in La Traviata, Silvio in I Pagliacci, and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, appearing with companies as diverse as the New York Grand Opera, the Bronx Opera, OperaAscona (European Debut), Opera Memphis, and the Auckland Opera (Australasian Debut). Mr. White has been equally at home on the musical stage in such roles as Harold Hill in the Music Man, Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Dr Engel in The Student Prince, Lancelot in Camelot, and the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. Steve created the role of Gandalf in Der Herr der Ringe in Berlin and was an original member of the third national and Antwerp, Belgium, companies of Phantom of the Opera, appearing as Don Atillio and Passarino and understudying Firmin in both those companies. He has also appeared in dramas and musicals with Theatre Memphis, Playhouse on the Square, Opera Northeast, and has been off-Broadway as Simon Peter in Rabboni. A very versatile performer, Mr. White's symphonic experience includes the Brahms Requiem, Handel's Messiah, and various operatic and Broadway concerts with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Memphis Symphony, and the Haifa Symphony, in Haifa, Israel, singing under the baton of Maestros Zubin Mehta, James Conlon, and Vincent La Selva. In film and television, Steve has appeared in Final Chapter Walking Tall, For Love of the Game, 21 Grams, the Upright Citizens Brigade, and Law and Order. Mr. White is a student of Armen Boyajian and the proud and lucky husband of Deborah White. |
